OPEN POSITIONSINSTRUCTORWe are seeking both NARHA-certified instructors and prospective instructors for part-time positions, $15.00/hour (no benefits). Current Horseplay instructors have full-time jobs outside of Horseplay and therefore work approximately 5-10 hours per week. If you aren't certified, but have horse experience, please let us know if you're interested.
The NARHA Web site provides complete information about the certification process. In the past, we've sent instructors to the certification weekend at Equi-Ed in Calistoga. How Do I Get Started? We ask that prospective applicants visit the center to observe sessions in progress. This allows you to see first-hand what is involved in instructing and the range of our riders' abilities. You'll also have a chance to ask questions in person and meet the other instructors. If after observing the sessions, you remain interested in becoming an instructor, we ask that you volunteer for 25 hours, and take a basic horsemanship and riding test using one of our horses. Please keep in mind we're a supportive group! Once you've completed 25 volunteer hours and have taken the tests, we'll assess whether to advance you to an instructor in training. As an instructor in training, you'll be responsible for deciding on session activities and directing sessions, again with lots of support! Througout the process, you'll receive lots of encouragement but you do need to be self-motived to complete the NARHA requirements, detailed on the NARHA Web site.Instructing for Horseplay is both challenging and fun; all of the current instructors are passionate about the program and the benefits it offers. You'll be joining an enthusiastic and welcoming group of people! Please feel free to contact us with any questions. |
